The Best Getaway of the West...Ever!
Have you ever dreamed of seeing our beautiful West Coast and the Inside Passage by boat, rail, motorcoach and air? If so, it’s time to pack your bags. We are thrilled to present this tour featuring the VERY best of the West. Featuring our beautiful Prairies, Calgary, Banff, Jasper, the Icefields Parkway, the spectacular Rockies, Vancouver, Victoria, a cruise up the Inside Passage, a train through the Rockies, and a speedy flight home from Calgary. Early reservations are a must!
Day One – To Sault Ste. Marie: After meeting our travelling companions we enjoy a scenic drive to Sault Ste. Marie, beginning with the Chi-Cheemaun cruise from Tobermory to Manitoulin Island.
Day Two – To Thunder Bay: We visit Wawa this morning on our way to Thunder Bay, stopping at the Terry Fox Memorial, located where Terry was forced to end his Marathon of Hope.
Day Three – To Winnipeg: A visit to the hauntingly beautiful Kakabeka Falls is a lovely way to start our day as we travel through Kenora and into Manitoba. We spend the night in Winnipeg.
Day Four – Winnipeg: Today we visit the Assiniboine Zoo, where we’ll experience their new attraction, "Journey to Churchill", which will get us up close to Arctic fox, snowy owls, muskoxen, and polar bears. See the polar bears swimming over your head as you walk through glass viewing passages. This afternoon, we’ll visit Canada’s most talked-about new venue, the Canadian Museum for Human Rights. The first national museum to be built in nearly half a century, and the first outside the National Capital Region, this facility is dedicated to the evolution, celebration and future of human rights.
Day Five – To Regina: A local guide joins us for a tour of Winnipeg, followed by the short drive to Regina. On arrival, we visit the RCMP Museum.
Day Six – To Medicine Hat: This morning we see the fascinating Moose Jaw Tunnels and learn about the rum-runners during the prohibition era. After a unique Fabric of Canada event, we spend the night in Medicine Hat.
Day Seven – To Calgary: We soon see the foothills of the Rockies in the distance as we approach Calgary, our home for the next two nights.
Day Eight – Calgary: We spend the day at the Calgary Stampede. Enjoy hundreds of exhibits, entertainment and events and reserved seats for the evening Chuckwagon Races.
Day Nine – To Banff: This morning we visit spectacular Lake Louise, where we stop for pictures and see Victoria Glacier reflected in the lake before continuing on to Banff. We take a ride up Sulphur Mountain on a gondola, for glorious views of the mountains and the town below. Take some time to walk the well maintained boardwalk trails, or just sit and enjoy the view. Enjoy the evening on your own in the beautiful town.
Day Ten – To Mount Revelstoke: Today we see interesting Spiral Tunnels of the railroad and visit the memorial where the Last Spike was driven in the complete the Trans Canada Rail line. We spend the night at a fascinating resort complex on an inland lake, where we enjoy a ghost tour and barbecue dinner for a unique experience.
Day Eleven – To Vancouver: A scenic drive takes us into Vancouver today, where we spend the next two nights.
Day Twelve – Vancouver: A guided tour shows us the best of the city. We have lunch and free time for exploring at Granville Island this afternoon.
Day Thirteen – To Victoria: We take a ferry from Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay on Victoria Island. A local guide joins us this morning for a tour, followed by an afternoon at Butchart Gardens. Then evening is free for you to perhaps stroll the harbour waterfront, enjoy dinner on your own or take in an evening boat cruise.
Day Fourteen – Victoria Island: We travel through Vancouver Island today, stopping in Duncan to see the famed totem poles, and Chemainus, for their famous murals which cover most of the exterior walls in town. We spend the night in Port Hardy.
Day Fifteen – Inside Passage: This morning we board a ferry for a full day cruise through the Inside Passage. The coastal scenery as we wind our way north through this famed and rugged passage is spectacular; spend the day taking it all in where coast meets mountains. We disembark in Prince Rupert, just south of the Alaskan border, where we spend the night.
Day Sixteen – Prince Rupert: Today we visit the Museum of Northern BC. Set in a magnificent longhouse overlooking the Prince Rupert harbour, this museum features incredible exhibits that bring the history and culture of the northwest to life. Spend the rest of the day at leisure, exploring this lovely northern coastal town at your own pace, soaking in the beautiful surroundings.
Day Seventeen – Grizzly Bear Tour: A once-in-a-lifetime experience awaits us today, as we take a day-long adventure to view the area's outstanding northern wildlife. We board a catamaran and cruise north along the coastline to the Khutzeymateen Inlet, where we view grizzly bears along the shoreline form the safety of the vessel. Enroute, keep your eyes peeled for porpoises, seals, sea lions, whales, and a variety of sea birds. A light lunch is included onboard. We return to Prince Rupert this afternoon for our final night in this special place.
Day Eighteen and Nineteen – Train to Jasper via Prince George: We board our VIA train and travel in luxury through some incredible scenery, on two days travelling by train through five mountain ranges, winding along the mighty Skeena River. Enjoy upgraded, spacious reclining seats that provide sweeping mountain views from extra-large panoramic windows. We also have access to the exclusive dome car, which offers a lounge and 360-degree views. Meals are included while onboard the train, including wine with dinner. We spend the night in comfort at a nearby hotel in Prince George, before boarding the train again the following morning for the rest of this incredible journey. We arrive in Prince Rupert this evening, where we spend the next two nights.
Day Twenty – Jasper: This morning we visit the Jasper Yellowhead Museum and Archives. This fascinating exhibit shows us the life of the people who built this part of Canada, and gives us a glimpse into what it must have been like settling an area so geographically unforgiving. This afternoon, you have the option of relaxing at the hotel and enjoying a casual walk in the area, or you may wish to board the Jasper Sky Tram for a bird’s eye view from atop Whistler’s Mountain (extra cost). The choice is yours.
Day Twenty-One – Icefields Parkway and Columbia Icefields: The scenery today is beyond compare! With magnificent mountains on both sides of us, we wind our way through the Parkway to the Columbia Icefields and Athabasca Glacier. We take a unique Snowcoach ride right up the glacier and experience walking on it. Continuing along the Parkway, we soon arrive in Calgary, where we spend our last night together. A farewell dinner is included this evening.
Day Twenty-Two – Calgary to Kitchener: Today we board a jet for a convenient return flight to Kitchener-Waterloo, where we meet our shuttle drivers for a worry-free drive to your hometown.
